the culinary campsite

Just add water

There’s something about camping that adds an element of magic to simple tasks like building a fire or cooking a meal.
The most basic meals just taste better when prepared on a camp stove out in the bush with your mates and kinfolk.
While the best camp recipes are the simplest ones, you do need to make sure you’re using quality ingredients.
You might be able to keep supermarket veggies fresh for a couple of days in your 12V fridge, but a great way to stock up on supplies when travelling in remote areas or for a long time is to look at freeze-dried meals and ingredients like the Campers Pantry range.
Freeze dried food is lightweight, super convenient and can be stored without refrigeration. The fresh ingredients are simply snap frozen. Add the freeze-dried ingredients to water and heat, then watch them
re-hydrate before your eyes – complete with all their original flavour and nutrients.
Campers Pantry offers a huge range of quality vegetable side-dishes as well as pre-prepared meals that just need water added.

A Hilux’s best friend

Old Man Emu’s Extended Range of HiLux Upgrades

It’s been in the pipeline for a while, but ARB has finally released its extended range of Old Man Emu GVM upgrades in order to cater for Australia’s highest selling vehicle model.
Two upgrades have been made available for HiLuxs built from 2015 onwards, the first improves the original specified capacity from 3,000kg to 3,150kg, while the second increases capacity to 3,465kg.
Whether you use your rig for work or play, it’s pretty easy to max out its GVM when you consider that everything from bullbars to tow bars, recovery gear, tray bodies, fuel and even passengers are factored into the final figure.
Driving a vehicle around that’s loaded above its recommended GVM is obviously not safe, and can also net you a big fine and void your insurance in the event of a crash. It’s a risk that’s just not worth taking.
Old Man Emu provide suspension upgrades to improve the handling, performance and safety of most popular 4WD makes and models.
If you think that your rig might be overloaded, or you’re simply looking for a performance upgrade and added peace of mind, get in touch with your local ARB outlet.
For a full list of Old Man Emu products head to www.oldmanemu.com.au and

D-MAX GETS A 2017 FACELIFT

As reported on our website back in February, a leaked online brochure forewarned of the updates Isuzu had in store for the 2017 spec D-MAX.
The major improvement being the reworked 3L four-cylinder diesel 4JJ1 engine. While top end power remains stable at 130Kw at 3,600rpm, the noticeable increase was found at the lower end of the rev spectrum.
The 2017 model offers 430Nm torque at 2,000rpm, a handy increase over the 2016 model, which offered 380Nm at the same revs.
The updated powerplant has been equipped with a diesel particulate filter in order to bring it in line with Euro 5 standards, while a raft of other under-bonnet updates have been made to the fuel pump, pistons, injectors and turbo.
The automatic D-MAX is fitted up with the same Aisin gearbox as the 2016 model, while the manual receives a new six-speed transmission built in-house by Isuzu.
The D-MAX’s front end has received a few stylistic tweaks, with updates to the grille, bumper and bonnet offering a fresh look.
Further updates are offered to the higher spec LS-U and LS-T utes, including built-in satellite navigation and a new eight-inch centre console screen.
